Gartree Wind Farm Co-operative

Harborough District Council Planning Committee refused planning for the Gartree Wind Farm

Planning Appeal

Energy4All and the Gartree Wind Power Co-op have decided not to lodge and appeal against the decision of Harborough District Council Planning Committee to refuse planning for the Gartree Wind Farm.  Instead, discussion with housing developers have commenced - to explore the potential for an alternative wind farm scheme that integrates with the proposed housing.

John Malone, Development Director at Energy4All, said "The work that we have undertaken on behalf of the Gartree Wind Power Co-op in preparing the planning application and the accompanying Environmental Statement has clearly demonstrated that a technically viable and environmentally sound wind energy project can be built on the site that meets planning guidelines.  However, the proposed development of housing adjacent to our site emerged as a new factor late in the day, and was perceived to be a key issue by the Council in turning down our plans.  Rather than appeal on this scheme, we would prefer to explore opportunities with the housing developers, and redesign and resubmit an application for a new wind energy scheme.  We received tremendous local support in the development of our original plans".
